Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, a priest of the Diocese of Aba, was ordained in 1984 after formation at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu.
He holds advanced degrees in Sacred Scripture (LSS), Dogmatic Theology (DTh), and Canon Law (DCL), with specialization in Old Testament textual criticism.
He studied in Rome, Jerusalem, and Frankfurt. A seasoned Vatican diplomat, he was appointed Permanent Observer to the UN Office in Geneva in 2021.
On 15 March 2023, he became Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
Archbishop Nwachukwu is recognized for his deep theological scholarship and significant contributions to global Church diplomacy and evangelization efforts.
