Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Kinshasa, DRC, is a Capuchin friar who professed final vows in 1987 and was ordained a priest in 1988.
He holds a doctorate in moral theology from the Alphonsian Academy in Rome and has taught theology in various institutions.
He served as bishop of Bokungu-Ikela and apostolic administrator of Kole and Mbandaka-Bikoro, becoming Archbishop in 2016.
A key mediator in the DRC political crisis, he helped broker the San Silvestro Agreements. Appointed coadjutor of Kinshasa in 2018, he succeeded Cardinal Monsengwo.
Made cardinal in 2019, he serves on the Council of Cardinals and several Vatican dicasteries.
